The Ally Project
Queer inclusion
DESCRIPTION /
In 2019, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) conducted an extensive LGBTI survey with 140,000 participants from 30 countries. The aim was to assess the current situation of queer people and compare it with the results of the first survey in 2012. Unfortunately, the comparison shows that little progress has been made in the last seven years and many queer people continue to report significant discrimination.
To counteract this, we in our consortium want to collect and exchange impressions and information from queer youth in our respective countries. Our aim is to further develop our institutions and integrate queer issues more strongly into our youth work.
In doing so, we are focussing on particularly vulnerable groups: The German partner SiB focuses on queer young people in rural areas, the Italian partner HRYO on those in religious and socially disadvantaged families, and we, FemEduBeArt, on young people in patriarchal family structures. Through dialogue with queer youth groups and individual young people, we want to better understand what moves them and what they want from us, the professionals, but also from their parents’ generation.
RESULTS /
- Respectful dialogue as the basis for discussions with those affected and experts.
- Conversations with queer youth groups or individuals through each partner organisation.
- Queer young people will feel seen and heard.
We will publish the results of this exchange as an online article so that other organisations, young people and families can also benefit from it.
AMBITIONS /
With this project, we want to take a step towards greater inclusion and equality and improve the quality of youth work so that the needs of queer young people are better taken into account.
Another aim is to network the local youth groups in the partner countries and give the young people a European sense of community. In this way, we want to take a small step towards more inclusion and equality and improve the quality of youth work in our country so that the concerns of queer young people are consistently taken into account and provide inspiration and support for queer young people and their families.
ROLE OF FEMEDUBEART /
Among other things, FEMEDUBEART is responsible for the Transnational Partner Meetings (TPM), which are intended to facilitate intensive exchange and networking between the staff of the participating organisations. These meetings will serve to jointly deepen content-related work, formulate questions, initiate and maintain conversations with queer youth, and finalise and create the online article and the dissemination plan. It will be the host organisation for the 3rd TPM.
FEMEDUBEART focuses in particular on young people in patriarchal family structures.
