Shaping the future of Europe
My image of peace
DESCRIPTION /
Democracy in Europe is in crisis. Citizens are currently shaken by the war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. With PEACE, we are addressing the current challenges and stress factors affecting democracy in Europe and actively involving citizens. We want to contribute to the success of “peaceful relations” between Europeans by bringing citizens into action and actively involving them in our cities of this network, Lüneburg, Timisoara, Kifissia and Izola. We want to create a new, pro-equality and future-oriented narrative for Europe, addressing young citizens in particular. In our cities, through the activities of PEACE, we want to give citizens of all ages the opportunity to get involved, counteract their powerlessness and engage with Europe, its values and its achievements – especially European citizenship – 30 years after the Maastricht Treaty.
Exhibits on the future of Europe are created in workshops: Citizens’ expressions: inside views on the topics of “war and peace”, energy transition, Green Deal vs. mobility and European citizenship. The workshops will analyse what Europe has already achieved and discuss these achievements with a view to shaping Europe’s future. The exhibits will be pedagogically designed for an awareness-raising campaign that will be presented in each city of the consortium. This awareness-raising about EUROPE, European citizenship and future issues will be presented in a transparent dome tent in each city. During this phase, an international panel discussion will take place in each city with guests from each of the partner cities. Here, citizens will discuss the future of Europe with political representatives. An impulse paper will summarise the results.
RESULTS /
Knowledge about democratic processes often remains abstract. That’s why we decided to create an interactive experience installation for our project.
It is an awareness-raising measure:
In a transparent dome tent, exhibits on the topic will be presented for a fortnight in high-profile squares in the five cities and visited by visitors.
We are developing these exhibits in workshops with young adults, which can be used interactively by visitors and give them the opportunity to engage with European values, European citizenship and the future of Europe. Propaganda and fake news will also be addressed. Photo collages, interviews, objects, QR codes for short videos and visions of a democratic and free Europe will be juxtaposed, making comparisons possible.
This will raise awareness of the values of democracy and thus the values of Europe in five European cities.
We expect that the realisation of these activities will increase the social commitment of young citizens in particular and that those involved will feel included in the democratic life of the Union.
AMBITIONS /
The main objectives of PEACE are to vividly convey the values that EUROPE stands for (human dignity, freedom, democracy, gender equality …). This network is intended to promote European identity and thus strengthen awareness of the European Union. The dictatorial behaviour of the war aggressor Russia must not be accepted and tolerated. Europe’s values of democracy (freedom, peace, self-determination, etc.) are currently vital for survival.
ROLE OF FEMEDUBEART /
Among other things, FEMEDUBEART has the leading position in the conceptualisation of the dissemination. This also includes the development and design of the project website, the project logo and the maintenance and transparency of all project content and results for the public.
